Moses said to the LORD, ‘You have been telling me. “Lead these people,” but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, “I know you by name and you have found favour with me.” If you are pleased with me, teach me Your ways so I may know You and continue to find favour with You. Remember that this Nation is Your people.
The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
Then Moses said to Him, ‘If Your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.
Exodus 33: 12-15
Day 12 – Nick
Summary of Chapter 12
Verses 1-11: This scene is spectacular! It’s a gospel-scene that requires faith and meditation to fully appreciate because of the threat of familiarity breeding its ugly, callousing contempt in our hearts. There is concentrated wonder for us here but the devil lurks in the shadows to steal, kill and destroy because he knows that wonder is uniquely and inextricably linked to our satisfaction in God and our effectiveness in the world.
Within these first three weeks of 2014 we have been following a Daniel Fast to achieve a few things:
1) Detox from the poor nutrition running up to and during the festive season &
2) Lose a few vanity pounds but primarily
3) Know a closer-felt proximity to Jesus
The overwhelming reason for doing any Christian fast is homesickness – homesickness for heaven and homesickness for Jesus. When Jesus was asked in Mark 2 as to why His disciples were not fasting, He points John’s disciples and the Pharisees (who’d asked) to the day when the Bridegroom would be taken from them (us, the church) and when we’d then fast. We fast because we miss Jesus and we long to be sensitised to His presence and His voice. (Have a look at an article I wrote a few years ago here).
The Presence Project is the brand new worship project from Firebrand Notes that has been conceived and born from a desire to get real, talk about our experience of the Presence of God and consider how we are really seeking Him in the hope of being deeply aware of Him in our lives. He promises to draw near to those who draw near to Him. He loves you insatiably!
I hope you’re inspired and encouraged to seek God in new ways and to know the joy of intimate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ – you can listen to the full Presence track here
Ahead of the release of the fbn2 Presence Project next week, here are some potentially life-changing bullet points and excerpts for you from A W Tozer’s The Pursuit of God and the chapter The Universal Presence. I pray that they would whet your appetite and bless your relationship with God.
On July 24th and 25th 2013, I took a bunch of mates into Peak Studios in Bradford, England, to record The Presence Project.
The project combines a beautiful worship song that will encourage you to treasure the presence of Jesus above everything else in life and a video inspiring you to pursue Him more than ever before.
The Presence Project will be available here to view for free at the beginning of September 2013.
Here’s the new, mid-September edit – Presenting the Presence Project:
A scene in the gospels recently etched an image on my mind when Jesus took James, Peter and John up a mountain to experience something new of His presence. The encounter involved the spirit of Moses and Elijah but also the transfigured Christ (Matthew 17, Mark 9, Luke 9).
The message paraphrase of the Bible describes the manifest presence of Jesus in that moment in this way,
“…as they found themselves buried in the cloud they became deeply aware of God”
The post yesterday tried to shine a spot-light on the nature of God as an affectionate Lover of His people and the difference between this reality and the notion that God loves us only because He loves us unconditionally, as though we weren’t lovable to Him. Of course, our standing before Him is both transactional and covenantal (Romans 3: 1-24) but His love is not without emotional affection.
