Mairi and I, along with our friend Sam, spent a glorious few days last week in Torbay filming on location for the Jesus Come project which is coming along nicely.
We also had plenty of time for much-needed relaxation including finding my old childhood fishing spot off Berry Head where I have memories of catching fish as a wee boy. It was so much fun.
We’d got the rod out and set up camp at Berry Head but for three or four hours there was barely even a bite on the end of the line. Then, all of a sudden, after hundreds of casts, a large Mackerel chomped down on my hook and I reeled the little ripper in. Elation. I had been close to giving up after hours of no action on the end of my line and then this little beauty came along for the BBQ due in an hour back at a friend’s house! Within the next 15 minutes, all of us caught fish giving us between 15-20 for the evening meal. If I’d given up when the tough got going, we’d have had no joy that summer’s evening.
I felt the Holy Spirit putting His finger on something that was important to take away from this: the need to persevere with the desires of our hearts. Psalm 20 is an amazing encouragement to me!
“…Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the Pioneer and Perfecter of (our) faith.” Heb.12:2
