New Mercies

Mairi and I were privileged to be invited to the 10th Anniversary celebrations of Mercy Ministries UK last weekend. Good friends of ours are part of the team from Bradford and so we sat back and lapped up the goodness of God that was being celebrated in front of us. More Than Forgiveness

One of my favourite promises in the Bible is found in Lamentations 3:22-23

I think most of us will be familiar with these verses as they’re like a royal crown for us to wear every single day. But ‘mercy’ isn’t just having our overdraft cleared every night at midnight so that we can start each day again on zero.

Constant State of Jubilee

Because of Jesus’ blood shed on the cross for you and for me, our daily waking reality is one of jubilee – i.e. we get to wake up every single morning knowing that we have been set free from the kingdom of darkness, released from the dominion of sin, forgiven from everything past, present and future and ‘delivered’ or ‘transferred’ into the kingdom of the Son! (see Colossians 1:13).

There’s nothing better than this.

In worldly terms, (via an infinitely inadequate metaphor), being a Christian, a lover of Jesus, is like winning the lottery every single day for the rest of your life!

Mercies Every Morning

I’m coming to think of these Lamentation verses as being less to do with ‘all my wrongs being made right’ or ‘ my worst day being wiped clean ready to try again the next day’ but rather that I get to come to Jesus every single day! I get to come to the Exodus 19 God, my actual Father, Maker, Table-Sharer, Friend, Confidant, Saviour, Kinsman Redeemer and Advocate and to simply be with Him.

I think this is called prayer.

The devil works overtime to convince the Saints that prayer is something else so that our lifestyles won’t be shaped by it.

But it really is this good.
