The Bible tells us to ‘take captive every thought that sets itself up against the knowledge of God and make it obedient to Christ” (2 Cor.10:5)
Do you ever look at your email inbox and ignore a whole bunch of emails because they’re not important to you – you can tell by looking at the sender or subject title? Well, you may ignore them, as I do, but they still clog up your inbox – they still encroach in your world and demand some form of attention.
It’s very satisfying to go through each of the emails and hit ‘unsubscribe’ at the bottom which ensures that no more unwanted emails will be coming your way again.
Thoughts that we have once subscribed to, joined up for, agreed with etc, need to be dealt with like this, especially if they are against the knowledge of God: take them captive, make them obedient to Christ and, in so doing, chuck them out. This will invariably involve chucking some ways of thinking out, resisting temptations of old thinking habits that come and replacing them with new ones!
For every email sender you unsubscribe from, why not join up with something/someone you do want emails from as a replacement?
Peter says (1 Pet.2:11) that there is a war waged against your soul – that’s hard core! There are spiritual forces of wickedness that constantly, daily, minute-by-minute wage war against your soul. We must unsubscribe from soul/mind cluttering junk that we don’t want and de-clutter if we are to stand against the enemy’s war strategies.
