Cantique de Noël

I wanted to leave you with my worship highlight from our carol service this year. Matt Redman? No (though loving that Matt is at Onething this year). Bethel? No (though loved our time worshipping together at Westminster in November). Gabrielle Aplin’s Salvation? No (though very touched by her track).

The highlight for me was the original version of O Holy Night, the original French version, with partly different melody and incredibly powerful lyrics:-

It’s midnight Christians,
It is the grandiose hour,
When the Son of God came down to us
to take away original sin,
And to stop the wrath of His Father.
The entire world trembles with anticipation,
On this night when a Saviour is given to them.
To your knees people, await your deliverance,
Noel! Noel! Your Redeemer is here!
Noel! Noel! Your Redeemer is here!

The Redeemer,
Has broken every shackle,
The earth is free and the heavens are open.
He sees a brother where there was only a slave;
Love unites those who were in chains,
Who will tell Him of our gratitude?
It’s for each one of us that He is born,
That He suffered and died,
People to your feet, sing of your deliverance,
Noel! Noel! Sing to your Redeemer!
Noel! Noel! Sing to your Redeemer!

Merry Christmas everyone!
